This young aspiring collective may only have released 2 tracks “Gnarly” and “Water x3”, but both tracks pack such a punch it’s hard not to get excited about what this group can produce. Combing hard beats and strong bars you can already imagine how a live show from this group would go down; fucking. wild.

Souf Select’s first track “Water x3”, collecting a wealthy 20k plays on Soundcloud, boldly showcases each member’s ability to flow smart bars as well as creating a hook that effectively combines each verse. No member is better suited to the track than anyone else, and if this can be replicated throughout their work, this popularity will only thrive as the fan-base learns more about each individual style that comes together to make a collective with incredible potential, that we hope really takes flight going into 2017.

Here is my interview with Souf Select:

When was Souf Select created?

Well we’ve been writing and making music together since about 2012, but that was just classroom raps and shit. Once we got more dedicated and developed our artistry and vision a little more we started Souf Select in 2014.

What inspired you guys to make a collective?

We were all kids who just didn’t follow the crowd, we never fully fit in with one group or type of people...so we were all kind of just wandering on our individual journeys trying to find our placement. Then one by one our lives crossed and before we knew it we had our own group of friends. We just happened to all be dope ass artist and had similar visions. Plus we were together everyday anyways might as well put our heads together for something progressive rather than just smoking blunts and chasing skirts like a lot of the people we knew. That idea it what sparked us.

Would you say it is harder for a collective to 'take-off' compared to an individual artist?

Nah we wouldn’t say that. We actually think the opposite. Being a collective makes us more versatile on the different types of sounds we can create. Connecting us to a wider audience; creating a new kind of listener which will ultimately create the new culture. It’s all about building a platform from the ground up. A lot of people try to skip that key step.

The tracks are undeniably hard - is this reflective in your lifestyles outside the studio?

Yeah, our music is like a soundtrack to our lives; every vibe, every lyric is representation of the things we’ve encountered or observed from our surroundings. All real shit, that way u feel the authenticity in the music.

Do you make your own beats?

On occasion we cook up our own, but we’re working with a few producers and looking to link with more.

Does Souf Select have any management/lead character?

We plan to manage ourselves until we find a management that fully understands our vision and can do a better job than us.

Opinions on Trump?

Fuck Trump ugglahhh

Will police brutality ever end in the United States?

Not until people understand the true concept of love. Police brutality is one of the hundreds of world problems that stem from the definition of love being corrupted. Respect everyone its simple. Hopefully in time we can be a part of the change.

Are you jewellery fans?

Yeah, but we’re not the types to overdo it. Gotta cop that crib before that chain.

What drugs do you like?

Choppin trees and water water water.

What is the most significant piece of work currently in progress in Souf Select?

2017
